Morning sickness is incredibly common. Ear seeds are a non-pharmaceutical solution based in traditional Chinese Medicine.

Don’t be fooled by the name—morning sickness can strike any time, day or night. And while there’s no quick fix, research suggests that ear seeds may help. Each small sticker contains one stainless steel, 24k gold-plated “seed” that activates a key acupressure point in the ear.

To use, simply apply a sticker to the designated point (you can apply one to each ear) and press every few hours. For maximum benefit keep ear seeds on for 3 to 5 days, then remove and discard.

As always, consult with your care provider before using any treatment in pregnancy.

Materials and Care

Stainless steel, 24k gold-plated “seed” and latex-free, medical-grade adhesive tape. Remove and discard after use, and wash your ear to remove any remaining residue.

Why our Acupressure Ear Seed Kit set may help

Nausea occurs in 50-90% of all pregnancies, and vomiting occurs in more than half of all pregnancies. This is caused by rising hormone levels in early pregnancy, primarily human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and progesterone. Symptoms typically occur in early pregnancy, peaking in intensity around weeks 8-12.

Acupressure, a method developed in traditional Chinese medicine which puts continuous pressure on specific body areas without needles, has been shown to alleviate nausea and vomiting—though the research is limited.
  • Motion sickness bands that apply pressure to the P6 pressure point on your wrists have been found to reduce the severity of nausea and the frequency of vomiting in pregnancy.
  • Auricular pressure (including use of ear seeds) involves applying pressure to key points in the ear, which were shown in a randomized double-blind study to provide significant relief for nausea, although it did not provide relief for vomiting.
