When it comes to lactation supplements, not all ingredients are created equal. While some are widely recommended, they may come with side effects or considerations that aren’t well known. At Bodily, we take a research-backed approach to every ingredient we include (and don’t include), carefully selecting those that align with our commitment to quality and thoughtful formulation. Below, we break down why we’ve left out certain commonly used ingredients—and what we’ve included instead to create a nourishing, delicious latte you can enjoy every day.

Why we don’t include Fenugreek

Fenugreek is not recommended for those with a peanut or legume allergy, or anyone with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, as it has been shown to impact thyroid function. Hypothyroidism is common during pregnancy and often continues through lactation. It occurs when the thyroid doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones (as it involves T3 and T4) and can require treatment from an OBGYN or physician.

Because these thyroid conditions and allergies are common and many people are unaware of fenugreek’s potential effects, we’ve chosen to exclude it from our blend to prioritize our customers’ care.

That said, if you don’t have a thyroid condition and your doctor approves, fenugreek can be a great herb for lactation support. However, all lactation herbal supplements should be avoided during pregnancy—fenugreek in particular has been shown to trigger uterine contractions. As always, we recommend consulting with your doctor before taking any supplements to ensure they’re the right fit for your individual health needs.

Why we don’t include Brewer’s Yeast

Brewer’s yeast is a commonly recommended lactation supplement, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. Studies have shown that it can cause adverse reactions in some people, including weight gain, stomach cramps, dry mouth, and nausea. While brewer’s yeast may offer some lactation benefits, we believe these side effects are undesirable enough that they outweigh the potential upside. Our goal is to create a Lactation Latte that supports you—without discomfort—so you can feel good before, during, and after every sip. At Bodily, we’re intentional about every ingredient we include (and don’t include), prioritizing both effectiveness and your overall experience.

At Bodily, we formulate with intention—every ingredient is carefully selected to support you through the postpartum journey with confidence.

What is in our Lactation Lattes and Why?

We formulated our Lactation Latte with carefully selected, research-backed ingredients that support milk production while nourishing your body. And because we believe that supporting lactation shouldn’t mean sacrificing taste, we partnered with a top NYC chef to create a recipe that’s as delicious as it is effective—so you’ll actually look forward to your daily cup. Here’s what makes our blend special:

Oats

A nutrient-dense powerhouse packed with vitamins, minerals, and polysaccharides, oats have long been associated with lactogenic properties. They’re also a great source of iron, which is essential for postpartum recovery and milk production—since low iron levels can contribute to decreased supply. Bonus: oatmeal is just good for you.

Shatavari

A functional herb used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, shatavari is known for its ability to promote breast milk production while also supporting overall immunity and reproductive health.

Goat’s Rue

A plant traditionally sought after for its lactogenic effects, goat’s rue may also support endocrine health.

Milk Thistle

Known for its liver-supporting properties, milk thistle has also been used to aid lactation by promoting healthy milk flow.

Malunggay (Moringa)

This nourishing superleaf provides a rich source of iron and essential nutrients, Moringa supports milk production and overall postpartum wellness.

Support Beyond Ingredients

While these ingredients can help support milk production, they’re just one piece of the puzzle. The most effective way to build and maintain supply is through frequent milk removal—whether through nursing or pumping. If you have concerns about supply, working with a lactation consultant can provide the best guidance tailored to your needs.

At Bodily, we’re committed to creating products that truly support you in the postpartum period—without unnecessary side effects or compromises. Our lactation latte is designed to nourish, support, and taste incredible, so you can enjoy every sip with confidence.
